OUR ANNUAL PARISH PICNIC, held last Sunday afternoon at Queen’s Park was blessed with good weather, was well attended, and was enjoyed by all. We wish to thank all those who attended. A special thanks to all those whose efforts made the picnic, once again a success! From the coordination of each pre and post meal activity, to the donations of the delicious desserts (CWL, Young-At-Heart, parishioners) we all enjoyed, we couldn’t have done it without you. We also wish to thank the staff of New Westminster’s Parks & Recreation Concession Outdoor Catering Services for the wonderful meal and juice they provided us.

Pastoral Priorities and Goals of the Archdiocese to the end of 2015.
On Pentecost May 19, 2013, Archbishop Miller made public the three pastoral priorities and goals of the Archdiocese of Vancouver until the end of 2015.
1. Growing a culture of vocation.
We will work toward better preparing our young people to answer their call as married, ordained, consecrated or single.
The Archdiocese will establish three new programs to support marriage and family life by Dec. 31, 2015. These programs will focus on marriage preparation, marriage enrichment and parenting.
The Archdiocese also intends to increase the number of seminarians to 25 by Sept. 1, 2015.
2. Evangelizing the Family.
This means that families are called to be aware that they are friends and followers of Jesus.
This includes helping our young people to grow in their faith. In the Archdiocese one intends to establish youth ministry in at least 60 of our parishes by Sept. 30, 2015.
The Archdiocese is also aiming at having at least four faith formation programs every year for adults in our parishes by Dec. 31, 2015. This will help people to be the salt and light of the Gospel in our society today.
3. Steward God’s Gifts.
We will focus on making gratitude a way of life, by prayerfully giving thanks and reflecting on what we are giving back to the Lord for all that he has given us.
By Nov. 30, 2015, every parish will have a comprehensive plan for dealing with the infrastructure needs of its school, church and hall, and for any future development.
The Archdiocese intends to establish stewardship committees in 30 – 40 parishes by Sept. 30, 2015.
As a parish, we are called to reflect on these priorities and goals, and to make planning decisions in reference to them.
We are beginning our annual RCIA faith journey on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7:00 pm. We will be meeting weekly until Pentecost next year. We are inviting adults who want to prepare for the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and Eucharist as well as those members of other Churches who are interested in becoming Catholics. Please phone the parish office 604-522-4611.
CFC – Youth for Christ will be selling delicious chocolates at the church hall on the weekend of July 20 to August 11 at the end of each mass. The proceeds of which will be used to cover the cost of their registration and transportation in the 2013 Western Canada CFC Youth “True North Conference” to be held at University of Calgary, AB on August 16-18, 2013. This Youth Conference will be joined by other CFC Youth group in the western provinces. It involves praise and worship, talks and workshop that help them develop not only their catholic faith but also their spiritual, moral and social values. We hope for your generous support.
