November has traditionally been the month that we pray for our deceased relatives, friends and former parishioners. We will do this as a community by praying for people whose names are listed in our Book of Remembrance. Loose pages are located at the back of the Church and we invite you all to write names in the book. The Book of Remembrance will be placed in the sanctuary. We remember our deceased parishioners who died since November 1, 2011. Malek Agei, Norma Barlow, Angela Basso, Margaret Brown, Sybil Byrne, Keith Duperron, Gordon Finlayson, Donald Gillespie, Roger Gillis, Archibald Gold, Mary Hall, Dorothea Josey, Christine Leary, Andre Lohe, Eleanor McDermott, Patricia Niska, Gianni Pandolfo, Fluorina Polych, Joseph Sebellin, Nicholas VanderZalm, Jozef Vanhoutteghem.

VATICAN II: Constitution on the Liturgy (December 4, 1963)

26. Liturgical services are not private functions but are celebrations of the church which is “the sacrament of unity,” namely, the holy people united and organized under their bishops.

  1. Servers, readers, commentators, and members of the choir also exercise a genuine liturgical ministry.
  2. To develop active participation, the people should be encouraged to take part by means of acclamations,

responses, psalms, antiphons, hymns, as well as by actions, gestures and bodily attitudes. And at the proper time a reverent silence should be observed.

33. In the liturgy God speaks to his people, Christ is still proclaiming his gospel, and the people respond to God both in song and in prayer.

The prayers addressed to God by the priest who, in the person of Christ, presides over the assembly, are said in the name of the entire holy people and of all present.
34. The rites should radiate a noble simplicity. They should be short, clear, and free from useless repetition. They should be within the powers of comprehension, and normally should not require much explanation.

35. In liturgical celebrations, a more ample, more varied, and more suitable selection of readings from sacred scripture should be restored.
36. The use of the Latin language, except when a particular law prescribes otherwise, is to be preserved in the Latin rites. But since the use of the vernacular, whether in the Mass, the administration of the sacraments, or in other parts of the liturgy, may frequently be of great advantage to the people, a wider use may be made of it, especially in readings, directives and in some prayers and chants.

37. Even in the liturgy the church does not wish to impose a rigid uniformity in matters which do not affect the faith or the well-being of the entire community. Rather does it cultivate and foster the qualities and talents of the various races and nations.
38. Provided that the substantial unity of the Roman rite is preserved, provision shall be made, when revising the liturgical books, for legitimate variations and adaptations to different groups, regions and peoples, especially in mission countries.

39. Within the limits set by the standard editions of the liturgical books it shall be for the competent ecclesiastical authority to specify adaptations, especially as regards the administration of the sacraments, sacramentals, processions, liturgical language, sacred music and the arts.
40. In some places and circumstances, however, an even more radical adaptation of the liturgy is needed. The competent ecclesiastical authority must carefully and prudently consider which elements from the traditions and cultures of individual peoples might appropriately be admitted into divine worship. Adaptations which are considered useful or necessary should then be submitted to the Apostolic See, to be introduced with its consent.

41. The bishop is to be considered the high priest of his flock from whom the life of his people in Christ is in some way derived and on whom it in some way depends. People must be convinced that the principal manifestation of the church consists in the full, active participation of all God’s holy people in the same liturgical celebrations, especially in the same Eucharist, in one prayer, at one altar at which the bishop presides.

42. Parishes, each set up locally under a pastor who takes the place of the bishop, represents the visible church established throughout the world. Efforts must also be made to encourage a sense of community within the parish, above all in the common celebration of Sunday Mass.
