PREP REMINDERS:
MAY 6 – FIRST HOLY COMMUNION, 11 AM MASS.

MAY 23 – PROCESSION FOR THE BLESSED VIRGIN, 7 PM. PARENTS ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND. MAY 30 – YEAR END BBQ, DOORS OPEN AT 5:30 PM. PARENTS INVITED.

REFUGEE SPONSORSHIP: Our one year sponsorship of Emad, Basmaa, Sandra, Tim and Tanya (originally from Iraq via Syria) will be completed in May. They are all doing well – Basmaa is working full-time (both Emad and Basmaa have been at ESL school), Sandra and Tim will be receiving the sacrament of confirmation on May 13th. All 3 children are working hard at their schools. We wish them all the best for the future and look forward to a continued friendship.

CWL BURSARY: Two Bursaries totaling $ 500 each to a son/daughter of a registered member of St. Peter’s Parish graduating from a Catholic High School or Public High School. Must be deserving academically and financially and continues to study at a post secondary institution. Applications are available at the back of the church and must be returned by May 15th. REFUGEE FUND DINNER: The Social Justice Committee would like to thank all the volunteers who helped: John and Lily Forget, Jean Bouchard, Anna, Mason, and all the others who helped from set-up to clean up; those who donated to the gift baskets: CWL, Knights, Young-At-Heart, St. Vincent de Paul, Margarete Bradley, Toni De Marchi, Corrie Heijke; donations to door prizes: Safeway, Royal City Farmers’ Market, Save- On-Foods, Thrifty Foods, and John Forget; donation from Legion of Mary; Larry Lambert (bar); the Stewart School of Irish Dance, and a BIG thank you to Gerry and Sue Spindor for set-up/MC/50-50, and Andy and Stefani Boch for preparing lovely table settings, information table, and wonderful dinner!

BLESSED NYKYTA – BISHOP & MARTYR: A Play with Music Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Appointment of Bishop Budka as the First Ukrainian Catholic Bishop in Canada. Presented by Fr. Edward Danylo Evanko on Sunday, May 6 at 1:30 pm at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 501, 4th Avenue, New Westminster. Admission: Adults – $ 15.00, Youth under 19 – $ 5.00, 12 and under – free (tickets can be purchased at the door). Refreshments to follow in the Parish Hall.

SPEAK UP FOR LIFE: The annual March for Life in Victoria is taking place on May 10, 2012, with Mass at St. Andrew’s Cathedral at Noon. COURSES OFFERED AT ST. MARK’S COLLEGE – May 12 – June 9, 2012 (Saturdays) 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. 1) THEO 522: Catholic Social Teachings by Shelley MacDonell and Fr. Gary Franken.
Catholic Social Teaching is about building a society based on justice and living lives of holiness amidst the opportunities and challenges of living in society. This course is an overview of Catholic social teaching, focusing on major themes that reflect the Church’s commitment to the poor and vulnerable as founded on the life and words of Jesus Christ, and as developed through the Church’s teaching. magisterium, especially papal encyclicals and Vatican statement.

2) RLED 512: Catechetics by Patrick Gillespie.

The course aims to explore the foundations and rationale of the Canadian catechetical program, its context and directives in the light of the Post Vatican II. Furthermore, it will lead the students to a deeper understanding and a greater appreciation of Catechesis in the faith formation in schools through Religious Education Programs.
